About Us

In 1977, Finol Oils was formed in Dublin, and as Amoco had decided to leave Ireland, Peter joined the company as their first rep, calling to his previous customer base. Peter worked for Finol until he was offered a distributorship by the company in July 1985.

In 1986, Peter and Marie’s only son, Adrian joined the growing company having spent the past three years away completing a Dairy Farm Management Course. 

The business expanded in 1991, again when the Conlan family became the authorised distributors for Maxol fuels in the south Kildare area. This commenced shortly after moving into the old cattle mart site. The business continued to grow and the Conlan name became synonymous with efficient service and top-quality fuel throughout the region delivered by a number of vehicles in all weathers.

An opportunity arose in 1996 to buy one acre of the original 4-acre site from the new owner of the site (Ned Martin) valued by a local auctioneer @ IR£40,000.

Peter and Adrian purchased the site between them and set about looking at options for its best use.

In 1999, Adrian and his wife Brenda, purchased what was previously Perry’s Filing Station on the Dublin Road and it soon became the forever home of the ever growing Conlan brand. 

Here, Adrian and Brenda ran their shop and forecourt while to the rear of the site, Conlan Oils continued to expand. 

In 2002 the couple bought out other family members and they were now the second generation to own and run the Conlan business. 

In October 2005 Conlans opened their brand-new store (3000sq ft)

It was the first Centra store in Athy and another standard had been added to Athy’s business community.

In 2007, as Conlan Oils continued to grow, Adrian and Brenda opened their purpose built 10,000ft oil building to the rear of the shop.

Sadly, in May 2009, Peter suddenly passed away while staying on his beloved boat, but his legacy still continues to this day through Adrian, Brenda and their family. 

As the Irish economy tanked in 2008 this affected the business as did other local factors beyond their control.

The business went through a survival period after 2009 and some tough decisions had to be made however no one lost their job and the family business in the following ten years grew and expanded.

As the lubricant business grew it was decided the time was right to create an autonomous brand, wholly owned and controlled by Conlans, and so in 2018 the Petre brand was born.

Moving a few letters around and using Peter’s name the brand was formed.

While Finol had been supplying Total products to Conlans for years an agreement was reached between the two that Finol would continue to supply Conlans using Total products in Petre packaging.

In the past few years, the third generation of Conlans has come on board, Daniel Conlan, youngest son of Adrian and Brenda, now also works full time with the company. 

Conlan Oils has grown from strength to strength over the years, with the help of a team of experienced technical, sales, logistics and stores staff.

To the Present day, Conlan Oils still continue and maintain their long established relationship with Finol Oils, who supply Total and Elf products. In addition, Conlan Oils also source their own high quality independent brand, ‘Petre’ from Finol Oils
